My Favorite Projects as of 3/27/13

End of Quarter Overlook

Medium: Photoshop (1) Photoshop (2)

I have two favorites that are based on the same idea and techniques.  I love the clone tool.  I feel as though I have mastered the art of combining two images.  They key is to use different occupancies to make the transitions look realistic. You need to combine things that make sense.  There is no example of a bad choice of objects because every artist has an idea and need to choose the right objects to portray their idea.  I will continue to use these techniques in the future because it makes the artwork interesting and entertaining. I am not a fan of the projects involving text because I think it takes away from the art itself.  However, I have seen some text worked into a piece of artwork that is very entertaining for the viewer.  I have enjoyed every project so far and  can not wait to continue to master Photoshop.

Star Gazing & Poem

Star Gazing

Looking out the window into an open cloudy sky
I ask myself why time seems to quickly pass by
We are little kids playing kickball all day
Then we're getting asked questions and we don't know what to say
I'm happy where my life is right now
Looking back I ask how?
Did one point in my life lead me to this?
Is their a sign that I may have missed?
Looking out the window into an open cloudy sky
I thank God far all he does way up high

Cinemagraph 2

Stirring Nature

Medium: Photoshop

Walking around Apex, I found a puddle and began to take pictures of me stirring it.  While, playing with the camera a bit I found a setting that took a series of action shots.  This image is a cinemagraph because the frog looks still and undisturbed at me stirring up the water.  I enjoyed this project even if it did require me putting my hand in cold, rain water when it was 45 degrees outside.

Time Moves On

Medium: Photoshop

As a swimmer, my world revolves around time.  Time for morning practice, time to have a snack, time to take a power nap before evening practice, and time to touch the wall.  When trying to get a certain time, the clock seems to move faster than the swimmer.  I am trying to go for my second nationals cut this weekend and I know everyone in the stands is going to have their hands covering their eyes when the final seconds count down and I come inside the flags.  This moment in time is both energizing and heart-stopping.  Every millisecond counts.  One fingernail can be the difference between going to nationals and staying behind.  The goal is to beat the clock and this weekend, that is what I am going to do.

Magazine Project

Celeb Chat

Medium: Photoshop

Learning how to use text in Photoshop was a lot of fun.  There are so many styles and fonts you can download to choose from.  By sticking to a common color scheme my cover created a sense of unity and flow.  I used the Barbie Project image I had posted before because plastic surgery is very common in the fame world.  Although the stories are not true and the interviews are all from the imagination, it is the artists job to use there knowledge from previous magazine covers and Hollywood gossip to pull in the readers attention.  I loved this project and think that this would be a very exciting occupation if I were to go on to do this as a career.

Celebrity Turns Disney

Carrie Underwood as Cinderella

Medium: Photoshop

I have always wanted to create a human Cinderella and I think Carrie Underwood fits this part because of her sweet, dedicated personality.  By using the actual characters and castle of the original Cinderella movie, Carrie clearly takes the role of Cinderella in this picture.  I changed Carrie's dress from pink to the Cinderella Blue while leaving the dress style the same.  Carrie's hair is in an up do as was Cinderellas in the movie.

Mouse's Best Friend

Medium: Photoshop

I loved watching the Mickey mouse cartoons when I was growing up.  I still have all the Micky Mouse movies on VCR in my house.  When I think of companionship I think of Mickey and his dog Pluto.  They were always there for each other and are the symbol of a true friendship.  Mickey always calls Pluto his Ol' Pal because Pluto is always there when Mickey needs help.  There friendship is made of love, loyalty, and guidance.  My childhood inspired this piece of art.

Reverse Engineer Text

Footprints in the Sand

Medium: Photoshop

I now know how the professionals put the words on their artwork and the famous photographers monogram and personalize photos.  This is a neat tool that will come in very helpful in the future.  I found it hard to get used to making the masked text because missing just one step can mess up steps in the future. This piece was inspired by the poem Footprints in the Sand.  This poem is very close to me.  My faith is based on this poem and continues to help guide me through life.

Here is the poem:

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
                             when I was suffering from
                         anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
      "You promised me Lord,
         that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
                                 there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

                                 The Lord replied,
                          "The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
          is when I carried you."

123DSculpt & Sketchbook Pro

The Dino-What?

Medium: 123DSculpt

The art I created turned out to look part giraffe, part dinosaur, and part puppet.  I liked how this app aloud you to create abstract art but I did not like how it was so easy to make the figure looked cracked.  There also was not an undo button so you had to think two steps ahead at all times.  I am not a fan of this app but I do think that a lot of amazing pieces could be made with the freedom this app gives you.  I think I would enjoy taking an pre-made object and making look like a real creature or using the plane shapes to make abstract art (like colorful cubic structures).  I would love to try making abstract art and less realistic art on this app.

Apple Waterfall

Medium: Sketchbook Pro

I first created an outline of the apple in front of me and then I created a second layer and a background layer.  The second layer consistesmultipule brushes gives many  unique effects that are fun to experament with.  I would love to continue to draw still lifes and I would love to create a painting with detail on this app.  I think a lot of amazing "paintings" could come out to this app.  I feel like this app is an online canvas.
